Mount Carleton (820 m) is the Maritimes' highest peak. The provincial park (175 km²) in the northern NB highlands is a Dark Sky Preserve with some of the darkest nights in North America.
The Mount Carleton trail (10 km return) climbs to a 360° summit view. Lakes Bathurst, Nictau and Nepisiguit for fishing and canoeing. Rustic accommodations at Lake Nictau. En route, Plaster Rock (pond hockey capital, World Pond Hockey Championship in February).
