The Itinerary
Campobello Island, off New Brunswick's southern coast, is unique in the world: it's Canada's only island jointly managed with the United States. Its bridge connects to Lubec, Maine — Canadians driving from New Brunswick must cross the U.S. or take the seasonal Deer Island Point–Campobello ferry (summer only, free).
Roosevelt Campobello International Park (Parks Canada / NPS) preserves President Franklin D. Roosevelt's summer home — a 34-room cottage where he spent every summer from childhood until 1921 (the year he contracted polio at Campobello). It's the only site in the world co-managed by two countries.
The island also offers Herring Cove Provincial Park (beaches, coastal trail, bird watching), East Quoddy Head Lighthouse (East Quoddy Light, accessible at low tide), and several whale-watching cruises from Head Harbour. Mulholland Point Lighthouse, at the bridge entrance, is a classic photo.
